Where are we today? Three days from Guam
It’s hard to look graceful in your Valentine’s dress when you enter a theater with a rolling floor and lurch forward, onto a gentleman’s toes. 🙈😆 The sea, which was calm and that beautiful navy color in the morning, grew rougher through the evening and is supposed to be so until about noon tomorrow. Last night’s jazz pianist/comedienne managed very well on the stage, though she gripped the piano whenever she stood up.
I think those of us who stuck to our deck walking routine got more exercise than usual just trying to stay upright. One man walked with such determination that his path was fairly straight. Another woman struggled some, but was doing better than many of us. She had a wider stance than I did. I tried to walk with my feet a little further apart and with determination, but I still wobbled about. 😆
Dave went to a talk given by the Staff Captain. He learned about the formulas for how the wind and currents affect the ship and how much the ship can and can’t handle. The captain also discussed how they use the ships engines to compensate for these effects.
It’s hard to tell from the video above that the sea was tossing today. It made me think of a verse in Isaiah that describes a life apart from God as a troubled sea, never at peace. The sea has given us so many rich images, both in its stormier aspects and its soothing ones. When the sea is calm and there are no other ships on the horizon, it really does look like we are floating on a bowl that is covered with the blue dome of the sky. I can see why ancient seafaring peoples used to picture the earth and sky in that way.
I hope everyone had (has?) a happy Valentine’s Day.
