Where are we today? Still in the Pacific

Today began with a clatter in the breakfast buffet as our ship rocked so far over that stacks of dishes slid off the counter. Even some of the servers were feeling the effects of the fierce sea, and a few were unable to work. Several passengers are wearing patches with seasickness meds in them. Despite the shaking and rolling, some folks did a 5 k walk on the promenade to raise money for Maui fire victims.
Dave felt fine, although he did find that food didn’t seem appealing He tried one of the patches, but found that it made him so sleepy he took it off. It must have helped some, as he enjoyed a surf and turf meal with new friends in the dining room. I wasn’t up to beef and lobster, so I ate Hawaiian spiced chicken.
I have been up and down with sickness these past 72 hours. I think the root Covid stomach, but it is definitely mixed with moments of le mal de mer.
At lunch with friends, I grabbed a green apple. Our server commented that he had eaten four that morning and that they really do help. It has to do with the pectin in the fruit, which coats your stomach, as well as the taste which cuts that icky taste you can get when nauseous.
Experienced world cruisers say that if you were ever going to be seasick on a trip around the globe, it would be today.
We arrive on Kona tomorrow morning, where Dave and I are scheduled to go whale watching. Kona is a tender port, and there is a rumor that the water will be so choppy that we can’t use the boats. I am hoping for calmer water.
