Where Are We Today? Guam!
Land Ho! After eight days at sea, we were happy to set our feet on solid ground. Our arrival in port made the Guam news.
We had never met in person, but Nick and Elmie, along with adorable Neo, were kind enough to meet us and take us to where the Guam Christian Church meets. Getting to worship with this wonderful group of brothers and sisters was encouraging.
Some of you will recognize Brandon, who was in graduate school in Nashville. He has been working with the church in Guam, and he did a beautiful job of leading us all in singing. Since we are so far from home, it was nice to see someone we knew with a connection to good old Tennessee.
Nick and Elmie treated us to lunch at the Jamaican Grill. After that, they drove us along the southern loop of Guam. We made several stops to get the look and feel of the island.
Guam, of course, is rich in history. One tidbit that fascinates me is the story of Shoichi Yokoi, the Japanese WWII soldier who hid in a dug out cave in Guam until he was finally found in the 1970's. We saw signs marking the path to his cave.
Hoffa adai (Guam equivalent of aloha) to you all.
